Polygamy in Malaysia is permitted, and the process is simpler than you think.
Whether through Perlis or Thailand, we handle the entire process for you. All you need to do is start a conversation.

Polygamy in Malaysia: a permission granted by Allah
Polygamy in Malaysia rests on a clear foundation. In Surah An-Nisa, Allah permits a man to marry more than one wife. It appears in the same Book that teaches us prayer, fasting and zakat. There is no reason to treat it as something shameful or hidden.
The Prophet Muhammad SAW practised it, as did his companions. Throughout the history of this ummah, polygamy has been an ordinary part of Muslim family life rather than an exception.
Allah also promises in Surah An-Nur that He will enrich those who marry out of His bounty. Provision comes alongside sincere intention and honest effort.
You do not need to know the procedure. That is our work.
Many men delay polygamy in Malaysia not because they do not want to proceed, but because they assume the process is complicated and exhausting. That assumption causes more delay than the procedure itself ever does.
In practice, once someone handles it for you, it becomes straightforward. You do not need to read state enactments, guess which forms apply, or search through conflicting information online.
Simply tell us your situation on WhatsApp. We arrange the rest.

Polygamy Application Process in Perlis
For men wishing to carry out a polygamous marriage in Perlis, the application must go through several stages at the Syariah Court and the Perlis Islamic Religious Affairs Department. In total, the husband-to-be typically needs to attend Perlis 3 to 4 times, depending on the Court's decisions and instructions.
- Register the polygamy application at the Court
- Obtain a mention/hearing date
Only the husband-to-be needs to attend. A hearing date is usually obtained within 3 weeks or more, subject to court availability and instructions.
- The husband-to-be and intended wife must attend the Court
- The intended wife's guardian (wali) must be reachable by the Court
The Court may contact the guardian for confirmation and to ask questions relating to the marriage. A decision is usually issued within 5–7 working days. The Court Order issued is valid for 90 days — if the marriage is not carried out within this period, a new application may be required.
- If the Court requires further clarification or information after the first hearing
Not all cases require a third attendance.
- The couple attends for the solemnisation at the Perlis Islamic Religious Affairs Department (JAIP) on the date set
- The guardian may attend, or must be reachable by JAIP for confirmation/permission if absent
Documents Required
- Copy of the husband-to-be's identity card
- Copy of the first wife's identity card
- Copy of the intended wife's identity card
- Copy of the marriage certificate with the first wife
- Copy of the children's birth certificates
- Latest 3 months' pay slips
- 3 months' bank statements showing salary deposits
- Copy of SSM registration — if self-employed/business owner
- 3 months' company bank statements — if running a business
- Divorce certificate — if the intended wife is divorced
- Death certificate and previous marriage certificate — if the intended wife is widowed
Important: Complete documentation is essential to ensure the application is processed smoothly. The decision and approval for polygamy fall under the jurisdiction of the Syariah Court, and every application is assessed on its own circumstances and facts.

We heard about this service from a friend who had also gone through polygamy himself. We had just completed the solemnisation last month, and are now waiting for the marriage certificate to be posted from Perlis. My first wife already knows, and alhamdulillah the whole process has gone smoothly.
We had the solemnisation done in Thailand, the process was simple and not as complicated as we expected. It was then registered in Malaysia straight after, and everything was completed without us having to worry about anything.
I married a partner from another country, and alhamdulillah the whole process went smoothly from start to finish. The NikahSunnah team helped arrange all the required documents.
Anyone may apply
Whichever state you live in, both routes for polygamy in Malaysia are open to you. All that is left is to send a message.

Questions people ask about polygamy in Malaysia
Is polygamy legal in Malaysia?
Yes. Polygamy in Malaysia is permitted and formally recognised, with applications made through the Syariah Court. Once permission is granted, the marriage is registered like any other. It is not a grey area and it is not something that needs to be hidden. What makes it appear complicated is simply that most people are unfamiliar with the steps involved. Once someone handles it for you, it becomes an ordinary administrative matter.
I am not from Perlis. Can I still apply there?
Yes. Most of our polygamy in Malaysia clients come from outside Perlis, from Selangor, Johor, Penang, Sabah and Sarawak. You do not need to relocate or change your address. We explain the steps that apply to your circumstances during the first conversation on WhatsApp, and we arrange the travel and appointment scheduling so you do not need to travel back and forth yourself.
Is a marriage solemnised in Thailand valid?
A solemnisation that fulfils the pillars and conditions of nikah is valid from a syarak perspective. The Fatwa Committee of the National Council for Islamic Religious Affairs Malaysia, at its 52nd Muzakarah held on 1 July 2002, discussed marriages conducted in southern Thailand. To complete the matter, the marriage is then registered in Malaysia, and we handle that step as well.
How long does the whole process take?
The timeline for polygamy in Malaysia depends on the route you choose. The Thailand route is generally faster because fewer steps are involved. The Perlis route follows the Syariah Court schedule. In both cases we give you a realistic estimate from the outset, so you can plan leave and other arrangements calmly rather than guessing.
What do I need to prepare right now?
Nothing at this stage. You do not need to gather documents, complete forms, or read any legislation before contacting us. Simply send a WhatsApp message and describe your situation briefly. We then provide the document list step by step, in order, so you only focus on one thing at a time.
Does my existing wife need to know first?
This varies according to the route and each person’s circumstances, and it is best discussed privately. Contact us on WhatsApp and we will explain the actual position for your situation, without judgement and without rushing you. The conversation stays between you and us alone.
Can I marry a foreign national?
Yes. We regularly handle marriages involving partners from Thailand, Indonesia and other countries. The document requirements differ slightly, but the process remains straightforward when handled properly. Tell us your intended wife’s nationality and we will prepare a list specific to that situation.
Why does registration in Malaysia matter?
Registration completes polygamy in Malaysia. Without it you may face difficulties confirming your marital status, in matters of inheritance, and when registering the birth of children. This is the step most often missed when people handle matters themselves, which is why we continue through to registration rather than stopping at the ceremony.
Where does the solemnisation take place in Thailand?
The solemnisation is conducted at the Songkhla Provincial Islamic Council, a recognised religious office. Afterwards your documents are submitted to the Malaysian Consulate in Songkhla for endorsement, before being used for registration in Malaysia.
What should I bring to Thailand?
Your identity card and passport are the basic documents. For those who are divorced or widowed, the original divorce certificate or death certificate is also required. We provide a complete list specific to your circumstances before the date is set, so there is no guesswork involved.
What does the service cost?
The cost of arranging polygamy in Malaysia depends on the route chosen and the scope you need. We state a clear figure from the outset, with no hidden charges midway. Message us on WhatsApp with your situation and we will give you an accurate picture of the cost for your circumstances.
Is the discussion confidential?
Yes. Every conversation, document and piece of information you share stays between you and our team alone. We do not share client information with anyone, and we do not use your story or photographs without permission. Many people contact us simply to ask questions at an early stage, and that too remains confidential.
I am still undecided. Can I just ask first?
Of course. You do not need to have made a decision in order to contact us. Many people reach out only to understand the options available, then take weeks or months before proceeding. There is no pressure and no persistent follow-up. Send a message, ask what you want to know, and decide when you are ready.
